There was a rumour in the ’90s that you could cheat and make Lara strip naked. The Tomb Raiderseries had a few of these. The kind of thing your mate would show you with glee when they would come round your house for tea after school. These were more party pieces than serious tips. I’m sure whichever evil person started this lie is probably stroking a cat and plotting world domination right about now… I knew a few kids who managed this mammoth task, with nothing to show but sore thumbs and less time. Possibly the most infamous of these ‘Word of mouth’ tips was the rumour you could play as the Villain Nitrus Oxide in Crash Team Racing if you best him on all the games tracks. If these cheats appeared in Magazines or books, you could usually trust that they worked, but there were always those dodgy ‘Word of Mouth’ tips that kids would try and get you to waste your time doing. Shout out to Tekken 3‘s Gon for helping me smash through Tekken Force mode in about 20 minutes flat. Sometimes playing as another character was superficial, but playing as others could help you cheese the game completely. While these weren’t necessarily cheat codes, the things you needed to do were often non-intuitive to players at face value.

I used this one so much, I can still do all the finger movements without a controller misspent youth or what?! This was a great cheat because inputting the code was confirmed by a splashing noise, giving my friend just enough time to be confused before a rocket ripped him apart. My favourite was the ‘All weapons’ cheat in Duke Nukem: Time to Kill. These would mainly be typed during gameplay. Something to either let you cheese the main game or get one up on your friends during multiplayer. These cheats were used to give your character extra lives, invincibility etc. These characters are Panda, Tiger, Monkujin, Angel, and Alex.Duke Nukem: Time to Kill Cheats Power Up Cheats – Now you’re playing with Power!! You must hover over Lei and go down or hover over Roger/Alex and go left)* *NOTE: To select Tetsujin/Monkujin in arcade mode you Must hover over Yoshimitsu and go down or hover over Wang and go right (same principle apply to Unknown. Jack, Devil, True Ogre, Ogre, Roger/Alex, and Unknown Unlockable characters: Kunimitsu, Kazuya, Bruce, Kuma/Panda, Jack-2, Lee, Tetsujin/Monkujin, Wang, P. You must beat the arcade mode 14 times to unlock all characters. Once you have done that you will unlock a character. To a characters you must play arcade mode and pass all 8 stages.
